about

Tracks 1 to 10 are all part of the Suite Piazzollana, which is divided in three parts (Rotas, tracks 1 to 4, Ratos, track 5, and Tarso, tracks 6 to 10), the name of each part being an anagram of Piazzolla's name: ASTOR. If I am allowed, I STRONGLY advise listening to it as a whole, non-stop, at least the first two times. Thanks for that ;)

Mi Buenos Aires Blues is a C Minor blues with a "new tango" rhythm. We had already recorded a version of this piece with Afines on 'Folclores' (FSWJ 001), but I wanted to recreate this piece with the nonet to give more room to improvisation and thus take advantage of the very individual voices of these soloists (and to let them catch their breath after hitting them with the millions of written notes that make the Suite!).

Adiós, Noneto is a small farewell piece. It became the inevitable ending once it was named, in a fine brush stroke by David Xirgu (a Catalan poet who plays drums), to paraphrase the very emblematic "Adiós, Nonino" by Piazzolla. The night before recording I wrote a lead sheet for soprano sax and piano (everything else is improvised), and the following morning I made nine copies and passed them around. We barely spoke. We recorded two takes, I did a bit of editing in the mix, and this is what is left. Hope to see you soon, very soon, Noneto." - Emilio Solla
